Our Trip to North California in Feb 2008
Page Three:  Big Sur,
the Old Mission and Santa Cruz
We next drove our rental-car down the famous "Big Sur" coastline, just for the classic scenery
The historic Mission San Carlos, aka the Carmel Mission, was built in 1771 (2nd one in California) by pioneering
missionary priest Junipero Serra (his tomb is under the floor of the altar), and is still an active Catholic parish.
and then to charming Santa Cruz, seen above in background from the UC campus, to visit my old friend
David "The Savage" Richardson, now Manager of the Rio Theater (site of live music, movies & etc)
the decades-old LP-collection
of the UCSC Radio station,
where Savage is still a DJ once a
week -- Lou of the new generation
wasn't sure what these flat square
things might be!
